How do I make the text bigger?

The way to change the text size differs between browsers. The list below shows the procedure for some popular browsers. If your browser isn't in the list, the following guidelines may help. In general, looking under the "View" menu, you will find an option called "text zoom", "text magnification", "text size", or "font size". If you can't find any similar option, check your browser's "Help" documentation. This can usually be found by pressing the 'F1' key on your keyboard.

  • Firefox 1.5/2: Click on "View" then choose "Text Size" and "Increase". Choosing "Normal" will return the site to the default font size.
  • Firefox 3: Click on "View" then choose "Zoom" and "Zoom In" (this will zoom the entire page). Choosing "Reset" will return the site to the default size.
  • Opera: Choose "View" then "Zoom" and increase or decrease the page size either by increments of 10%, or by 150% and 200%. Choose 100% to return the page size to normal.
  • Google Chrome: Choose the "Page" icon, and then "Text zoom". Choose "Larger" to increase the text size, or "Normal" to return to the default size.
  • Safari: Choose "View" in the menu bar, and then "Make Text Bigger". To return to the default size choose "Make Text Smaller".
  • Internet Explorer 5 & 6: Choose the "View" menu, and then "Text Size", and either "Larger" or "Largest". "Medium" will return the page to the default size.
  • Internet Explorer 7: Choose the "Page" icon and then "Text Size" and either "Larger" or "Largest". "Medium" returns the page to the default size. You can also choose the "Zoom" to enlarge the whole page including images.

What are skip links?

We've included 'Skip Links' on each page (top right hand corner). These take you directly to either the page's main contents, or to the main pages of the site, depending on which link you choose. Skip links are particularly useful for those using text readers so that they can skip the navigation and go straight to the main content on a page.

Navigating the site

We don't use access keys on this site as access keys (keyboard shortcuts, usually used by pressing two or more keys to activate a link) can conflict with system keys, keyboard shortcuts, used by various browsers and assistive devices. It is possible to navigate our site though without the use of a mouse, by 'tabbing' between links using the 'TAB' key on your keyboard. Once a link is tabbed onto, it can be activated by pressing the 'enter' key. You can also use the TAB key to 'tab' down the fields in forms.
